Privacy policy
In short
Calculator inputs are processed locally in your browser and are not sent anywhere by this site. We use Google Analytics 4 with Consent Mode v2 to measure aggregated traffic, but analytics_storage starts as denied by default, so no analytics cookies or visitor data are stored until consent is updated.
There are no accounts, no advertising and no other third-party scripts, and the application sets no cookies of its own. One sessionStorage key is used to restore scroll position. Serving any website involves requests to hosting infrastructure, which may process ordinary technical request data under the provider's own terms.
1. Scope of this policy
This policy describes how the SnapScaleCalc website (snapscalecalc.com) handles information. It covers the calculators, the reference pages and the explanatory content published here.
It does not cover the internal practices of the hosting and network providers that deliver the site, which are described only in general terms in section 8, nor any website you reach by following an outbound link (section 10).
2. What you type into a calculator
The calculators ask for measurements, scale ratios, percentages and unit selections. These values are held in the memory of the page you are using while you use it.
Calculator inputs are processed locally in your browser. The site contains no code that sends the values you enter to a server, to an analytics service or to any third party, and no server-side calculation endpoint exists for them to be sent to. When you navigate away, reload, or close the tab, the values are discarded.
3. How calculations are processed
Every calculator on the site runs the same calculation code, and that code is delivered to your browser as part of the page and executed there. Results, including the impact tables, convention comparisons and fit solutions, are produced on your device.
Pages are also rendered on the server before they reach you, using the default example values that are part of the published page. That server rendering happens before you type anything and does not involve your input.
4. Browser storage
The site does not save your calculator values, history, preferences or any identifier for later use. As of the version date above, using the site results in one browser storage entry:
- sessionStorage — a scroll-position key written by the site's routing library (currently named
tsr-scroll-restoration-v1_3) so that returning to a page restores your place. It holds scroll offsets per URL, not calculator values, and your browser clears it when the tab session ends.
No use of localStorage, IndexedDB or the Cache Storage API was observed, and the site contains no code that writes calculator input to any of them. Browsers and browser extensions may cache pages and assets by their own rules, which is outside the site's control.
6. Analytics, tracking and advertising
The site uses Google Analytics 4 (via the Google tag, gtag.js) to understand aggregate traffic: which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive, and basic device and browser characteristics. It is loaded from https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=G-790C7PC76R.
Google Analytics does not receive the measurements you type into the calculators. Calculation inputs and results are handled locally in your browser and are not sent to Google or to any server.
Consent Mode v2 is configured with defaults of ad_storage: 'denied', analytics_storage: 'denied', ad_user_data: 'denied' and ad_personalization: 'denied'. In this state Google Analytics will not store analytics cookies or process visitor data for measurement. If consent is later granted through a consent-management platform, the tag can be updated via gtag('consent', 'update', ...).
There is no advertising, no AdSense loader, publisher ID or ads.txt, no Meta, Clarity, Hotjar, PostHog, Sentry, Segment, Mixpanel, Plausible or Matomo integration beyond Google Analytics, and no session-recording, heatmap or A/B-testing service.
7. Third-party services and external requests
The calculators do not call an external API. There is no database, no third-party form or email service embedded in a page, no embedded video, map, social widget or comment system, and no third-party CDN.
Google Analytics 4 is loaded from Google's tag manager domain as described in section 6. With the default Consent Mode v2 denied state, that script runs in restricted mode and does not send measurement data.
Fonts, stylesheets, the favicon and the application's own scripts are served from this domain, and the two typefaces are bundled as local files rather than loaded from a font service. In runtime testing of the workbench, all eleven calculators and the reference and legal pages, every network request other than the Google Analytics tag went to the site's own origin.
8. Hosting and technical logs
The site is served as a server-rendered application from managed hosting infrastructure. Like any website, delivering a page involves a request from your browser to that infrastructure, and such infrastructure commonly processes ordinary technical request data — IP address, timestamp, requested URL, referrer and user agent — for delivery, security, abuse prevention and aggregate traffic measurement.
The application code does not write its own request log, visitor log or usage record. It does log server-side errors so that faults can be diagnosed; those entries describe the failure, not your calculator input.
Retention and handling of infrastructure-level logs are determined by the hosting and network providers, not by this site, and this policy does not state a retention period for data it does not control.
9. URLs and shareable state
The calculators do not encode your inputs into the URL, and there is no share, save or permalink feature. URLs on this site identify a page, not a calculation, so copying one does not carry your measurements with it.
10. External links
Reference entries and the methodology page link to standards bodies, mapping agencies and other published sources so that the data here can be verified. Loading a SnapScaleCalc page does not contact those destinations; your browser only requests them if you click the link.
Once you follow a link you are on someone else's website, subject to their privacy practices. This policy does not apply there, and linking to a source is not an endorsement of its data handling.
11. Accounts and email
There is no sign-up, login, profile, saved-calculation feature or newsletter, and no file upload or contact form. The site does not ask you for a name, an email address or any other personal detail in order to use a calculator.
The only channel offered is the email address on the contact page. If you write to it, your message and email address are handled by the mailbox provider. Email correspondence may be retained for as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain a record of the issue, or meet applicable legal obligations.
12. Retention, your choices and general use
Because the site keeps no record of your calculator inputs, there is no personal usage dataset held here to access, correct, export or delete. Google Analytics data is processed by Google under its own terms and retention settings. Requests about email correspondence can be sent to the address below.
You can control Google Analytics by withholding or withdrawing consent through a consent-management platform if one is added, by blocking googletagmanager.com in your browser or network, or by using browser tools that limit third-party scripts. You can clear the single sessionStorage key at any time by closing the tab or clearing site data in your browser, and blocking scripts will stop it being written at all, at the cost of the calculators, which need scripting to run.
SnapScaleCalc is a general-purpose reference tool intended for a general audience. The calculators do not ask users to provide personal information, and the site is not directed at children. A person who chooses to contact us by email may of course provide personal information in that message, as described in section 11.
13. Changes to this policy
This policy is written from what the site's code and observed runtime behaviour actually do. If that behaviour changes — a new dependency, an analytics tool, advertising, a form or a share feature — this page will be updated and the version and date at the top will change. Any change that introduces data collection will be described explicitly rather than absorbed into general wording.
14. Contact
Privacy questions, corrections to this page and reports of behaviour that does not match what is described here can be sent to snapscalecalc@proton.me.
