SnapScaleCalc is a scaling workbench: one calculation engine, many entry points, and an explicit statement of what a geometric answer cannot tell you.

Why it exists

Scaling questions look trivial and are answered badly almost everywhere. “Scale to 150%” gets confused with “increase by 150%”. A measured 1:76.2 gets quietly rounded to 1:76. A chain of resizes gets added instead of multiplied. A part that fits arithmetically turns out not to fit at all, because nobody asked which axis was binding.

Every one of those is a modelling failure, not an arithmetic failure. This site is built around getting the model right first and then being honest about its edges.

How it is built

  • One engine. Every page calls the same code, so two calculators cannot disagree about the same problem.
  • Exact arithmetic. Values are held as exact fractions of arbitrary-precision integers and rounded only for display, so repeated operations do not drift.
  • Sourced conventions. Documented scales are compared against your result and cited, never substituted for it.
  • Stated refusals. Where a question is ambiguous or has no single answer, the site says so rather than guessing.
  • Shown working. Each result carries the formula with your numbers in it.

What it is not

It is a geometry tool. It does not measure anything, and it does not model materials, strength, weight, cost, printability, machine behaviour, fastener standards, terrain or map projection. It is not professional engineering, surveying, architectural or safety advice. Every calculator states its own limits on the page rather than hiding them here.

Privacy and cost

The site is free to use and there are no accounts. Calculator inputs are processed locally in your browser, and there is no analytics, advertising or third-party script; fonts and assets are served from this domain. Serving any website still involves requests to hosting infrastructure, which is explained in the privacy policy.

Corrections

If you find an incorrect result, an out-of-date convention or a broken source link, please report it via the contact page. Corrections to the engine and to the reference dataset are the highest priority changes made here.
